- Fourth Shift "Batch Assignment" screen. Used to
assign the batch process to activation criteria
(activation key, screen, and screen region.
- BSET
- Fourth Shift "Batch Process Setup" screen. Used
to group a number of tasks together, including updates
and reports, to be processed in a specified order.
- CACF
- Fourth Shift "CIM Customizer Module" screen.
Used to view the records that detail how external
applications are accessed by Fourth Shift.
- Calculation
- A combination of numbers, operators, and/or symbols
designed to define a specific symbol.
- Choices
- Option under the Choices tab in the New Question Object
window that allows users to pick from a list of possible
answers.
- COD.SYM
- File containing symbol information.
- Code Module
- Object within the Option Assistant that contains only
programming code. Conditions can be added to restrict
when the code is executed.
- Code Repository
- Storage file of frequently used code. Stored code can be
inserted into the current rule file. Code can be added or
removed to the storage file as needed.
- Component
- Components used by Fourth Shift to create custom product
configurations or bills of materials. Any material or
work center can be selected for use in the Options
Manager.
- Component Type
- Fourth Shift Component Types. N: Normal, P: Phantom, R:
Resource, X: Reference, B: By-Products, C: Co-Products,
T: Tools, and U: Tool Returns. (If the item is a
manufactured sub-assembly of a custom product,
and you want the custom manufacturing system to treat it
like a module (phantom) then you would use a Component
Type of M)
- COMT
- Fourth Shift "Customer Order" screen. Used to
create new customer orders, add new items to existing
orders, change or delete order items from orders, and
delete orders altogether.
- Conditions
- An element of Objects in the Options Manager. Used to
limit when objects are executed.
- CPMT
- Fourth Shift "Custom Product Maintenance"
screen. Used to create and maintain the order-dependent
bill of materials and routing for custom orders.
- Custom programs
- Programs written by yourself or Advanced Manufacturing
Solutions. Used to create a dynamic symbol file prior
to the initialization of the Options Assistant.
- CUTS.EXE
- Custom program written by Advanced Manufacturing
Solutions supplied as part of the Options Assistant.
Creates symbols for all of the data elements on the
Fourth Shift COMT screen.
- Database definition
- Object within the Options Manager. Used to setup an
Access database for the storing of symbols.
- DVUD
- Fourth Shift "Data View Definition" screen.
Used to define the information you want to extract from
the MSS database. (see Fourth Shift Setup)
- Edit
- Selection in a window or drop down menu that allows the
changing of the object or rule file.
- Evaluation Stage
- Stage in the Options Manager main screen...
- Execution Stage
- Stage in the Options Manager main screen that completes
the programs for the rule file.
- Expression
- Definition of a symbol. Either literal or a calculation.

- Menu item allowing you to open, close, and create rule
files; as well as save and exit the Options Manager.

- Instruction book provided by Fourth Shift detail the
aspects of data importing.
- Gathering Stage
- Stage in the Options Manager main screen that contains
the Question Objects used to obtain information from the
end user.
- Help Menu
- Menu giving access to the help file as well as
information about the Options Manager.
- Input box
- Option under the "Choices" tab in the create
New Question Object window. Used to create an area for
the user to key in an answer. In order to control or
limit the possible answers you can place constraints such
as greater than or less than on the answers (i.e. The
height must be greater than 25 but less than 100).

- Expression of a symbol. Used to state explicitly the
value of a symbol. (i.e. <<COST>> = 13.09)
- Loop
- Object in the Options Manager. Used to establish
repetition within the Options Assistant.
- LT Offset
- Lead Time Offset. Allows you to schedule the steps of the
custom product.
- Message Box
- Object in the Options Manager that allows information to
be portrayed to the end user or copied to the clip board.
- Move Down or Up
- Button in the Options Manager that allows for the easy
sequencing of Objects.
- Name
- Identification tag for Objects used in the Options
Manager. Required.
- New
- Selection in the Options Manager that allows for the
creation of unique objects or rule files.
- No View
- Option in the Properties window that allows the Options
Assistant to be run hidden from the eyes of the end user.
Rule files in which user input is not needed.
- Objects
- Elements that make up the Options Assistant (i.e.
Questions, Components, Loops, etc.)
- Operators
- Functions used to manipulate data.(+, -, *, /, SIN, COS,
TAN, ^).
- Options Assistant
- One of two programs that make up the "Options
Assistant 2000". Allows for the execution of rule
files for the end users.

- One of two programs that make up the "Options
Assistant 2000". Allows for easy creation or editing
of rule files.

- Selection under the Tools drop down menu that allows for
the pathing of important files and the setting of the
component sort basis.

- Object in the Options Manager. Used to execute external
applications from within the rule file.

- Selection in the File drop down menu that allows the
setting of the View Type and Save Options
- Qty Type
- Fourth Shift quantity type. I - for quantities which are
multiplied by the order quantity, O - for one per order
quantities.
- Question
- Object in the Options Manager that allows for the
creation of information gathering prompts to be entered
by the end user.
- Range Expressions
- Conditions created by the designer of the rule file that
answers to Question Objects are
checked against during the information Gathering Stage.
- RCVR
- System Recovery operation in Fourth Shift. Used to read
files and enter or re-enter screen transactions
automatically.
- Recovery file
- File created by the Options Assistant that is recovered
(RCVR) by Fourth Shift in order to automate the data
entry task.
- REF.DBF
- Database extract from Fourth Shift containing pertinent
information regarding components. (see DVUD)
- Remove
- Button in the Options Manager main screen that allows for
easy deletion of Objects from the rule file.
- Rule File
- File created by the Options Manager. Also file executed
by the Options Assistant.
- Save
- Selection in the File drop down menu that preserves your
rule file.
- Save as...
- Selection in the File drop down menu that allows for the
saving of your rule file under a different name.
- Save Components
- Tab under the Save Options section of the File Properties
window allowing the storage of symbols in an Access
database.
- Step by Step
- Option in the File Properties window that allows the end
user to view the Options Assistant one stage at a time.

- Tokens in the Options Manager used to store values that
are referenced during execution.
